A Dalton teen who was missing for eight days went to the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office shortly after authorities issued a news release asking for the public’s help in finding her.
Capt. Rick Swiney said 15-year-old Andrea Sawyers went to a relative’s residence and contacted the sheriff’s office on Sept. 6. She had left her residence on Aug. 29. Swiney said the girl came forward on her own.
“She told the officer she was tired of running,” Swiney said.
Investigators had asked for the public’s help in finding Sawyers, sending a description of her and a photo to area news outlets. A runaway warrant was issued for her, but officials said they had also begun to fear for her safety.
Sawyers told officials she had been staying at an area park. Swiney said she was unharmed.
