Judge set to OK $85 million bond

A Superior Court judge is scheduled to validate an $85 million industrial bond issued by the Dalton-Whitfield County Joint Development Authority (JDA) at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 9, at the Whitfield County Courthouse.

Greater Dalton Chamber of Commerce President Brian Anderson said the bond will be used to fund a major expansion announced by Shaw Industries in September, including an expansion of a fiber extrusion center on Hamilton Street and the construction of 530,000 square feet of new warehouse space near the south Dalton bypass. Shaw officials said at the time that expansion would add 175 new jobs to the area.

Anderson said Shaw would be responsible for paying the bonds and no financial liability would be assumed by the JDA, the city of Dalton or Whitfield County.
