Chynoweth convicted of riot, obstruction

John Steven Chynoweth, 23, of 418 Rebecca St., Jasper, was convicted today by a Whitfield County jury for the crimes of riot in a penal institution and obstruction of a law enforcement officer. Boyett could sentence Chynoweth to as much as 20 years for the riot charge and five years for obstruction. The case was presented to the jury by Assistant District Attorney Jason Souther, assisted by Assistant District Attorney Keely Norman. Chynoweth was represented by Circuit Public Defender Mike McCarthy.
