— A former Dalton State College professor accused of molesting an 8-year-old female relative and other victims is scheduled to be in court Dec. 18.

Monte Gale Salyer, who was an associate professor of English and English as a second language at the college before the allegations surfaced in January, pleaded not guilty in July and was scheduled to plea again before Judge Cindy Morris in Whitfield County Superior Court on Tuesday.

District Attorney Bert Poston said earlier the possibility of a plea different from what Salyer entered in July was being discussed for the Tuesday hearing, but the case was continued instead.

Salyer faces charges of statutory rape, criminal attempt to commit a felony, five counts of aggravated child molestation, two counts of rape and three counts of child molestation.
