Submitted by the Dalton Police Department
The Dalton Police Department is asking for the public’s help with identifying a man who did his best Grinch impression recently when he stole a jar of money intended for charity from a Dalton gas station. The jar contained between $80 and $100 that had been donated by customers. The theft was caught on the store’s surveillance system.
The incident happened on Thanksgiving at approximately 2 p.m. at the BP station at 2214 E. Walnut Ave., but it was not discovered until days later when a store employee returned to work and noticed the jar was missing. When she checked the store’s surveillance system, the employee found video of the incident and called police.
On the video a white male can be seen taking the jar, which was kept on the counter near the cash register, and putting it underneath what appears to be a shirt slung over his shoulder. The suspect left the store with the jar still covered by the shirt.
The suspect is approximately 6 feet tall with dark hair shaved on the side. He appears to have facial hair. He wore a dark T-shirt and faded jeans. Store employees told investigators the suspect’s name might be Justin, and that he has been seen at the Walmart on East Walnut Avenue panhandling.
If you have any information on the identity of this suspect, please contact Officer Ray Figg at (706) 278-9085, ext. 139.
