Two 16-year-old boys believed to be gang members are in custody after being charged in an aggravated assault in Dalton, officials said.
The boys, whose identities are being withheld because they will be tried as juveniles, are each charged with aggravated assault with a gun, willful obstruction of law officers, criminal attempt to commit a felony and unlawful for employee of gang to conduct crime.
A male victim in his late 30s was walking on Matilda Street off Glenwood Avenue at about 8:30 p.m. Monday when the two juveniles grabbed him, according to an incident report from the Dalton Police Department.
“He said that one grabbed him by the jacket and one jabbed him in the chest with what he believed to be a gun,” the report states.
The victim told police the teens told him to give them his wallet or they would kill him, and that he fell to the ground and the gun went off while they were shaking him. Then the man ran away and the teens ran in the opposite direction.
The department’s gang unit had identified the two as gang members, police department spokesman Bruce Frazier said.
“We were called pretty quickly afterwards, and we were able to get both the guys in custody,” he said.
