Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a man they said beat up his wife in August, escaped, then returned and attacked her again.
Jeffery Lamar Stephens, 25, of 849 Tilton Road-B, Dalton, was charged Thursday by the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office with two counts of aggravated assault, terroristic threats and acts, battery (family violence), criminal trespass and two counts of cruelty to a child.
According to incident reports, officers responded to a disturbance and were told by Stephens’ wife that the two had argued and he had kicked, choked and hit her in front of her 2-year-old son and his 18-month-old son. The report states Stephens left before police arrived and that his wife had “what appeared to be” a swollen cheek, redness around her neck and an abrasion on her leg.
During the more recent incident, the couple argued over a phone, according to his wife’s statement in the report, and he chased her into a bathroom and kicked down the door after she locked it. The report states Stephens’ wife had a busted lip and marks on her neck.
Stephens was still in the Whitfield County jail without bond as of Friday afternoon.
