Wagon Train slam full of fun
By Mark Millican
Dalton Daily Citizen
Despite Saturday night’s fierce storm that forced a delay in the open show of the Appalachian Wagon Train, events at the Murray County Saddle Club are continuing full tilt.
“We’ve had big crowds overall,” said Susan Stanley, wagon master for the 49th annual edition. “All the campsites are rented, all the stalls are rented, and we’ve had full participation in all the shows.”
She reported that the storm put a pause in Saturday evening’s action.
“We had to delay the show when the storm came in about 8:30,” she said, citing heavy rain, thunder and lightning. “It pushed the activities back for about an hour, and some of the vendors closed. But there was no damage anywhere — just a bunch of mud.”
Upcoming events:
• Today: Calcutta Barrel Race (warm-up barrels from 3 to 6 p.m., barrels at 7 p.m.), dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
• Thursday: Open show at 7 p.m. (crowning of Miss Appalachian Wagon Train), dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
