Bagley selects Quiz Bowl team

More than 60 students will be involved in Quiz Bowl at Bagley Middle School during the 2008-2009 school year.

Quiz Bowl, or Academic Bowl, is the middle school version of the Scholar’s Bowl in high schools and College Bowl. It involves teams of students competing to answer a variety of questions from all academic areas as well as areas such as computers, fine arts, entertainment, sports and health. Bagley has fielded teams each year since the school opened in 1989.

Based on tryouts, 11 students were selected for the regular team. More will compete in an intramural tournament at the school on Sept. 19. Some will also be involved in Junior Beta Quiz Bowl during the Georgia State Convention Competitions in November.

The regular team will compete throughout the year and is comprised of students from all three grades. Their first tournament is usually in October. Returning from last year’s group are Austin Fariss, Anthony Silvers, Jacob Howard, Timothy Southerland, Ethan Hart, Jacob Hickman and Hunter Cox. Joining them are Catherine Hickey, Fermin Calderon, Dara Daple and Alex Dyer.
