Crandall man killed in wreck

A Crandall man died Saturday morning in a two-vehicle wreck on Dawnville Road.

Emory Scott Hess, 56, of Crandall, died at the scene. Georgia State Patrol Sgt. Darren Gleaton said a witness said Hess apparently pulled out of his lane to pass a car and hit a pickup truck head on just after 10 a.m. near the intersection of Dawnville Road and Groves Road N.E. Hess was in a passing zone, Gleaton said.

The three people in the truck were injured and were taken to Hamilton Medical Center. Injured were the driver, Toby Lee Holsomback, 39, of Calhoun; Tracy Brock Holsomback, 16, Calhoun; and Roy Dudley Meadows, 40, of Calhoun. Their conditions were not immediately available.

Hess was driving a Chevrolet Uplander and hit the 2005 Ford F-250. The truck was pulling a fishing boat.

“Right now, I’m not hanging my hat on anything,” Gleaton said. “The witness directly behind him (Hess) said it appeared that he dropped out to pass. It was a passing zone. He dropped out to pass and when he did he met the other vehicle head on. Before I say this is what happened, I had a blood draw taken because I want to rule out any medical situation — stroke, heart attack anything like that — that could have occurred as well as rule out some type of intoxicant. There was nothing on scene or any evidence that would indicate there was any type of intoxication or anything of that nature.”
