Shelter to open at Dalton’s Greater Works Ministry

Those in need of shelter from the cold can find it at Dalton’s Greater Works Ministry at 1001 S. Thornton Ave.

“We are working with them to open a warming shelter from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m.,” said Whitfield County Emergency Management Director Claude Craig. “We’ll probably be open until the middle of or late next week when temperatures start to rise. This weekend isn’t supposed to be too bad, but we’ll be back down to single digits again Monday night.”

The shelter is scheduled to open at 5 p.m. today.

Craig said that, in addition to shelter from the cold, Greater Works will provide breakfast and dinner each day.

Craig said those interested in helping out can bring canned or sealed food, blankets, coats and other cold weather items to Greater Works.
