Murray High Alumni Association announces scholarship recipients

Katherine Baynes and McKenzie Carroll are the recipients of the Murray High Alumni Association’s annual scholarship awards, according to Tammy Coker Gold, president.

McKenzie becomes the 16th winner of the Allen Ross Memorial Athletic Scholarship while Katherine will receive the Anne Harris Brindle Memorial Academic Scholarship, which has been presented for many years.

Katherine is the daughter of Patrick and Melissa Baynes, both of whom are Murray High graduates. While in high school, Katherine has been involved in FFA, FCA, yearbook, Beta, cheerleading, golf, dance and FBLA. She plans to attend the University of Georgia.

McKenzie, the daughter of Beverly Carroll and Daniel Carroll, was captain of the Lady Indians basketball team. She was the Player of the Year for MCHS twice and also North Georgia Tip-Off Club Player of the Month. She will attend Dalton State College or the University of North Georgia.

Both scholarship winners were recognized at the MCHS Senior Awards Night. Funds for the alumni association scholarships are raised through membership dues, fundraisers and special contributions.

The alumni group is also seeking nominations for induction into the Alumni Association Hall of Fame later this year. Individuals may be nominated by any alumna/alumnus of Murray County High School. Membership in the alumni association is not a requirement for induction, but the nominee must be eligible for membership, meaning that the nominee must have attended Murray County High School for at least two academic years or have taught at the school for a minimum of 10 years.

The purpose of the Hall of Fame is to honor alumni who have made unusual or outstanding contributions to society through time and dedication, community service, volunteerism, exceptional career achievements or a combination of the above. Nominations should include reasons the person is deserving of the award, current residence and years of association with Murray High. Nominations may be held for consideration in other years and will be screened by the officers and the awards committee appointed annually by the association president. No more than five recipients will be honored each year, and each inductee’s name will be placed on a permanent plaque at Murray High.

Nominations, dues and donations to the scholarship fund can be sent to the MCHS Alumni Association, P.O. Box 2155, Chatsworth, GA 30705.
