NGEMC update (4 p.m.)

— Approximately 8,000 North Georgia EMC members do not have power as of 4 p.m. Due to very high call volume, many members have experienced busy signals while attempting to report outages. As an alternative to the phone, customers may report outages utilizing the NGEMC mobile app, available for free in the Android and iPhone app store. Reporting outages is recommended; however, NGEMC also receives most outage notifications via the technology associated with the Automated Metering Infrastructure that NGEMC implemented in 2013, which seems to be functioning well and providing timely outage information to the dispatch center.

Crews have restored power to more than 20,200 members since Wednesday evening. Blue Ridge Mountain EMC and Middle Tennessee Electric Cooperative crews have joined NGEMC crews and contractors in power restoration efforts. Because of the magnitude of the damage to the electric system, numerous outages may be extended through Saturday morning. Crews will continue to work until all power is restored.

The NGEMC Trion business office remains closed today. The Calhoun, Dalton and Fort Oglethorpe business offices are open and maintaining normal business hours.

Stay away from fallen power lines and assume that all fallen lines are energized. Report them immediately to NGEMC, your local power company or call 911.
