Two arrested for Murray County home invasion

Two men have been arrested for a home invasion that took place this month in the north end of Murray County, Sheriff Gary Langford said. A Chatsworth woman was previously arrested, and Langford said more arrests are possible.

David Nathaniel Drain, 25, of 3935 Ga. Highway 225 S., Chatsworth, and Corey Lane Griffin, 44, of 3720 N. Woodland, Dalton, were charged Thursday by the sheriff’s office with aggravated assault, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, kidnapping and first degree burglary.

Marlena Diane Harkless, 37, of 867 Cotton Circle in Chatsworth, was arrested last Saturday by the sheriff’s office and charged with aggravated assault, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, kidnapping, first degree burglary and theft by taking of a motor vehicle.

Langford said he expects more arrests but would not give more details because he said the incident is still under investigation.

According to an incident report, at 4:22 a.m. on Friday, March 7, deputies “were dispatched to 194 Deer Park Drive in reference to a home invasion in progress involving two men with firearms.” The report said three people were in the home being held at gunpoint by two people in masks. A female escaped and went to a neighbor’s home to call 911, the report said.

As deputies approached the home, they were told the suspects had run into the woods behind the residence. Because of the thicket, the deputies chased the suspects “laterally with the wooded area,” the report states. One of the suspects fired a gun.

At daylight, deputies searched the wooded area and recovered a holster, a boot, two pairs of gloves, a toboggan and a flashlight, which was assumed to have been left behind by the suspects, according to the report.
