A man in his 70s is recovering from some bruises and a bad scare after a group of men broke into his home on Sitton Road on Tuesday around 4:30 p.m., officials said.

Murray County Sheriff’s Office Detective Shannon Ramsey said at least two people broke into the man’s home, forced him to the ground, tied him up with duct tape and threatened to kill him.

Ramsey said they then stole an undisclosed amount of cash and some firearms from a safe. Because of the ongoing investigation, Ramsey declined to release more details.

Ramsey said the intruders soon left and the man was eventually able to get help. He sustained some bruises but is expected to be OK, Ramsey said.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Murray County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 695-4592.
