Elle Lyle couldn’t figure out which clothes she liked best at Dalton’s House of Beauty.
“Everything here is so cool,” she said. “I’m glad my friends are with me to help pick things out.”
Lyle and three other women came to the salon on Dug Gap Road Friday for a day of pampering — all of it free.
Ashley Stanley, who works at the salon, came up with the idea.
“I was watching the ‘Rachel Ray Show’ and she was giving women makeovers,” Stanley said. “They were talking about how it made them feel better. So I started talking to everyone here, and we thought we could do something to make people feel good.”
Jay Blaylock owns House of Beauty with his wife Lana, and they signed off on the proposal.
“We thought it was great. We haven’t done anything like this before. But Ashley came up with the idea and got everyone on board. She really ran with it,” he said. “This was an opportunity for us to give back to the community, which has been good to us.”
The salon asked its Facebook friends to nominate women for a complete makeover: a haircut and color, have their nails done, and receive a new outfit and jewelry. The staff then asked the mother of a co-worker, who lives outside Georgia, to read the stories and pick the ones touched her most.
“My mom nominated me, but I didn’t know until she told me I’d won,” Lyle said. “I was getting ready for bed one night, and she said, ‘Come here, you’ve won something.’ And I looked on the computer and saw that I’d won a makeover. I guess she just wanted me to have a day to myself, and I’m really glad she did. It’s all going to be very fun. I think it’s going to be one of the best Christmas presents I’ve ever got.”
Like all of the other women, Lyle said she’d never done anything like this before.
“It’s pretty expensive, and if you have kids and are on any kind of budget, it’s not something you can afford, so I really appreciate this,” said Erica O’Shields, who was nominated by her sister. “I’m pretty excited about it. It’s really special that it’s happening at Christmas. You are getting together with people, and you want to look your best.”
Sabrina Eades, who was nominated by her mother, said she was very thankful for all the staff at House of Beauty who pitched in.
“This will all take several hours, and it’s wonderful they’d take the time out of their day to do this,” she said.
Meanwhile, Deanna Rowe, who was nominated by her niece, said she was wondering how she would look after the makeover was finished.
“I’ve never had anything like this done before. It’s really wonderful that they are doing this. It shows a lot of kindness,” she said.
