Board trims administrator candidate list

The Whitfield County Board of Commissioners has already interviewed one candidate for county administrator, and chairman Brian Anderson said Monday the board will likely interview at least two or three more candidates in the next couple of weeks.

“We hope to complete the interviews by Jan. 6,” Anderson said.

Anderson said the board has narrowed the list of applicants down to about half a dozen, from around 30.

Former Bibb County tax commissioner and Georgia Department of Motor Vehicle Safety commissioner Jim Davis has been interviewed by the board.

And the board is talking to the other candidates by telephone, asking them to clarify various questions the board had about the resumes and other written material they submitted. Based on those answers, the board will decide whom else to invite to Whitfield County for an interview.

Anderson said the board may be ready to release a list of finalists immediately after finishing the last interview.

County administrator Bradley Arnold resigned earlier this year, effective Dec. 31, after a confidential e-mail he sent to commissioners was leaked to The Daily Citizen. The board voted in November to give Arnold the final month of his contract off with pay. Former administrator Lenard Whaley is currently serving as interim administrator.
