Senior food battle lands early bird diner in jail

Wilkesboro, N.C., police have charged 64-year-old Polly Richards with two counts of assault and battery after she allegedly started a fight in a Golden Corral restaurant. Employees said it apparently started when Linwood Moore went around Richards to pay as she was getting a drink. Richards reportedly cursed the man, grabbed his shirt and shoved him. She also threw a plate of food which hit another woman. — WITN

Biofuels do more harm than good, U.N. warns

The United Nations will officially warn that growing crops to make “green” biofuel harms the environment and drives up food prices. A leaked draft of a U.N. report condemns the widespread use of biofuels made from crops as a replacement for petrol and diesel. It says that biofuels, rather than combating the effects of global warming, could make them worse. — The Telegraph

California professor charged for shoving protester, stealing sign

Mireille Miller-Young, an associate professor of feminist studies at the University of California at Santa Barbara, faces misdemeanor charges of theft, battery and vandalism, according to Santa Barbara County District Attorney Joyce Dudley. Miller-Young grabbed a sign away from a 16-year-old taking part in a pro-life demonstration on campus. After protesters followed her, she reportedly shoved one of them and scratched her. — Reuters

Teen charged as adult in deadly New York City bus shooting

Police say Kathon Anderson, 14, has been charged with murder, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal use of a firearm in a shooting that left Angel Rojas, a father of two, dead. Police say the shooting was gang related and that Rojas was not the man Anderson was trying to shoot. — CBS New York
