Pope's peace doves attacked by crow and seagull

Two white doves released by children standing alongside Pope Francis in Vatican City as a peace gesture have been attacked by other birds. A seagull and a crow swept down on the doves after they were set free from the Apostolic Palace during the Pope's weekly Angelus prayer. — BBC



Police to crack down on Utah city's idling cars

A wave of preventable car thefts in a Utah city has prompted police to step up enforcement of a state law that prohibits unattended, idling vehicles. Car thefts are on the increase in part because of residents who go out to warm up their vehicles on cold mornings and leave them unattended, Ogden Police Deputy Director John Harvey said. — The Daily Herald



Search resumes for boy taken by crocodile in Australia

THE search has resumed for a 12-year-old boy taken by a crocodile in a billabong in Australia. The rescue mission to locate the boy has recommenced this morning after police and Park Rangers were alerted to the attack at Kakadu National Park on Sunday afternoon. — The Australian



Worker killed by Caltrain was trying to save man on tracks

As the express train came hurtling toward the Santa Clara, Ca. station, Philip Scholz was waiting on the raised platform for his train home when he saw a man down on the Caltrain tracks. Teen takes over as pilot collapses

A teenager has described how he took the controls of a light plane for more than half an hour after the pilot passed out during a joy flight over rural Australia. Troy Jenkins, 19, said the single-engine Cessna 150 was only 10 minutes into a flight from the New South Wales state farming town of Forbes yesterday afternoon when the pilot Derek Neville, 61, lost consciousness. — Belfast Telegraph
