Graves votes for Head Start funding

WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Tom Graves, R-Ranger, issued the following statement after voting for, and the House passed, legislation to fund the Head Start program for low-income children:

“House Republicans and Democrats have again acted to reopen as much of the government as possible. Today, we voted to fund the Head Start program for young children. I’m disappointed that this funding bill and others are being blocked by Harry Reid and Senate Democrats. While we continue to offer solutions and seek a reasonable deal, Harry Reid refuses to speak to us and will not let go of his hardline, all-or-nothing position.”

The House has passed the following funding bills during the temporary lapse in appropriations:

H.J.Res. 70 – Open Our National Parks and Museums

H.J.Res. 72 – Honoring Our Promise to America’s Veterans

H.J.Res. 73 – Research for Lifesaving Cures

H.J.Res. 75 – Nutrition Assistance for Low-Income Women and Children

H.J.Res. 77 – FDA Safety

H.J.Res. 84 – Head Start for Low Income Children

H.J.Res. 85 – National Emergency and Disaster Recovery

H.R. 3230 – Pay Our Guard and Reserve

H.R. 3223 – Federal Employee Retroactive Pay Fairness

H.Con.Res. 58 – Sense of Congress on availability of religious services to the Armed Forces
