BALL GROUND —
Police in the north Georgia town of Ball Ground have discovered the burned remains of a scarecrow portraying Uncle Si Robertson from TV’s “Duck Dynasty.”
The scarecrow, which featured the popular character from the reality show wearing camouflage and sitting on a hay bale with his legs crossed, went missing last week.
A juvenile has been apprehended and faces charges in juvenile court after police found the remains of the straw-stuffed character, The Cherokee Tribune reported (http://bit.ly/H7K75y ).
Ball Ground Police Chief Bryon Reeves said investigators received some tips from residents that helped crack the case. At one point, someone reported spotted Uncle Si sitting on a front porch.
City Clerk Karen Jordan said the scarecrow was a favorite in the inaugural scarecrow contest for the town about 50 miles north of Atlanta.
Four moms of fourth-graders at Ball Ground Elementary School spent more than 40 hours to make the scarecrow.
The mothers plan to rebuild the scarecrow, said one of the moms, Allison Martin. She said that they forgive the person who did it and they are moving on.
“To begin with we were kind of upset, the main reason we had done ‘Duck Dynasty’ was because of the background and their beliefs and we truly believe in them, and as a community we have to forgive,” Martin said.
