Mary Lou Dyer, 78, a resident of Marietta for 35 years, passed away Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at Metropolitan Hospice.
Mary Lou was born in Kansas City, Kan., on Aug. 8, 1930, to John Felix Morris and Elizabeth Beazel Morris.
Mary Lou attended Libertyville High School in Libertyville, Ill. She graduated from Baker University in Baldwin, Kan., and obtained a degree in sociology. She spent her first 19 years of marriage in Nashville. Mary Lou was an active Methodist her entire life. She attended Powers Ferry United Methodist Church for many years and most recently a member of East Cobb United Methodist Church. Her love of church, family and friends provided her a life of laughter and joy. She was an avid bridge player and was involved in many different bridge groups in the East Cobb area. Mary Lou loved politics, the Republican Party but most importantly, God and nation. She was an elections poll officer in Marietta for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her sense of humor and compassion for others will be truly missed.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Stewart Edwin Dyer of Marietta. Surviving children and grandchildren include: son and daughter-in-law Brig. Gen. and Mrs. Stuart Dyer of Gainesville; daughter, Julie Elizabeth Dyer of Dalton; daughter and son-in-law Catherine and Gerald Potter of Roswell; granddaughters, Eileen Dyer of Copenhagen, Denmark, and Corinne Elizabeth Dyer of Birmingham, Ala.; one brother and sister-in-law, Lt. Col. (Ret) Richard and Jean Morris as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation services are today from 6-8 p.m. at H.M. Patterson and Son, Canton Hill Funeral Home, 1157 Old Canton Road, NE Marietta, GA 30068 (770)977-9485.
A funeral will be at East Cobb United Methodist Church on Monday at 11 a.m., 2325 Roswell Road, Marietta, GA 30062 (770)971-3643. A graveside burial service will be Tuesday at Liberty United Methodist Church Cemetery, 6511 Houston Road in Macon at noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dollars for Scholars program at East Cobb United Methodist Church.
Arrangements are by H.M. Patterson & Son, Canton Hill Chapel.
