Gertha Lee Spivey Painter

Mrs. Gertha Lee Spivey Painter, 87, of Dalton, passed away Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at Regency Park Health Care.

She was the daughter of the late Sollie and Annie Mae Parks Spivey and was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac W. Painter; sisters, Marie Tate, Sybil Davenport and Ruth Sales Wright.

Gertha was born in Ellijay, where she lived until she and her husband moved to Dalton. After moving to Dalton, she owned and operated the Peachtree Motel and was the owner of the last standing chenille spread line on Highway 41. She loved her family, was musically talented and was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Ellijay.

Gertha is survived by her children and their spouses, Betty Sue and Eddie Burchfield Sr. of Duluth, Jeanette Ann and C. Patrick Burns of Ball Ground, Isaac Lee and Martha Painter of Dalton; sister, Catherine Ridley of North Carolina; brothers, Mayford Spivey of Decatur, Willard Spivey of Ellijay and Charles Spivey of Calhoun; grandchildren and their spouses, Eddie and Amanda Burchfield Jr., Patrick L. and Mary Burns, Chad and Kim Painter, Jeanine and Brian Englert, Kristie and Bucky Wright; great-grandchildren, Zachary Burchfield, Chandler Burchfield, Chapman Painter, Landon Painter, Patrick Burns Jr., James Burns, Davis Wright, Alexis Wright and Anna Leigh Wright; nieces and nephews.

The family would like to wish a special thanks to the staff of Regency Park.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home with the Rev. Trammel Campbell and the Rev. Mike Clary officiating.

Burial will follow in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home Wednesday from noon until the funeral hour at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 300 W. Emery St., Suite 106, Dalton, GA 30720.

Love Funeral Home, 1402 N. Thornton Ave., Dalton (across from Hamilton Medical Center), is in charge of arrangements.
