Mr. John Willard Davis, a resident of Murray County for more than 60 years, passed away on Monday, Aug. 14, 2011.

He was born on June 27, 1930, in Gilmer County. He was a member and trustee of Mountain View Baptist Church. Willard was lovingly known by family, friends and business associates as the go-to guy, whether he was running and dealing with major business decisions or playing in the yard with the grandchildren. Willard was a visionary and pioneer in the residential and industrial carpet industry in Murray County, which he entered in the late 60s. He continued his work at the mill until he retired at the age of 63. After retiring, he enjoyed working on the farm; buying, selling, and trading equipment and livestock; and spending time with his family.

Willard was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Nellie Fowler Davis; brothers, Raymond and Thurmond Davis; sisters, Louise Summey and Shirleen Davis; and a special niece, Jerri Davis Owens.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bettye Sanford Davis, and their two children, son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Brenda Davis of Chatsworth, and daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Crafton Dover of Chatsworth. Survivors also include granddaughters, Erin and Emilia Dover; and grandsons, Brent and Brandon Davis of Chatsworth, Evan Dover of Chatsworth and Bryan Pruitt of Atlanta.

Other survivors include special nephews, Herman and Darryl Davis of Chatsworth; sisters and brothers-in-law, Arlene Rymer, Juanita and Clyde Parker and Geneva and J. M. Smith, all of Chatsworth, Helen and Joel McDonald of Ringgold and Linda Loughridge of Chatsworth; brother and sister-in-law, Hubert and Tommie Sue Davis of Chatsworth; sisters-in-law, Nellie Davis, Rowena Pittman and Lorraine Davis, all of Chatsworth; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, I.A. Jr. and Jean Sanford of Chatsworth.

During his sickness, Willard had several special caregivers, Felicia Godfrey, Vickie Correll, Ruby Pais, Kellie FloodSteven

Services to celebrate the life of Willard are Wednesday at noon at Mountain View Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Jackson and the Rev. Lamar Payne officiating.

Burial will follow in Murray Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 5:30 to 9 p.m.
