Fred Gann, 73, of Cohutta, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, at his home.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Chester Gann; mother, Ella Bea Michaels; and brothers, William Hoyt Gann and Walter Gerald Gann.
Fred was raised and resided in the Georgetown and Birchwood area. He was well known for his love of auto mechanics and auto restoration. At retirement, he and Marilyn moved to Cohutta to be closer to their youngest son, Clayton. Fred fought a courageous battle against cancer for more than two years. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren until he entered into rest.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Elizabeth Gann of the residence; daughters and sons-in-law, Melissa and Alvin Gonzales of Virginia Beach, Va., and Teresa and Anthony Miller of Graysville, Tenn.; sons and a daughter-in-law, Jeffery Gann Sr. of Riceville, Tenn., Fred Gann of Rome, and Clayton and Amy Gann of Dalton; sisters, Pamela Parton of LaFayette; brothers, Paul Michaels of Ooltewah, Tenn., and Ron Michaels of Tellico Plains, Tenn.; 17 grandchildren, Krystal, Jon, Arianna, Emilio, Christopher, Mariah, Jeffery, Jennifer, Karen, Emily, Alfonso, Luisa, Bruno, Clayton (“C.J.”), Jasmine, Amber and Devan; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service to honor the life of Fred Gann will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Varnell Cemetery with Dewey Long and Ron Michaels speaking.
The family will receive friends at the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home today from 5 to 9 p.m.
