Sgt. 1st Class Douglas “Sarge” Lee, (retired), 87, of the Dawnville community, entered the gates of heaven Friday, Dec, 27, 2013, at his residence after a lengthy illness.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Nellie Clinton.
Mr. Lee loved his country and was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He was in the United States Navy serving in World War II and the United States Army during the Korean and the Vietnam wars. He also served as an Army recruiter from 1962 to 1968.
Mr. Lee was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Thelma Aileen Lee of the residence; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Larry Stewart and Sherry and Steve Cantrell, all of Dalton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Billy and Jan Lee of Dalton and Larry and Delilah Lee of Resaca; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
The funeral to honor the life of Mr. Lee will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Dixon officiating.
Burial will be in Whitfield Memorial Gardens. Military Honors will be rendered by American Legion Post 112.
The family will receive friends at the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home Monday from 5 to 8 p.m.
