Mrs. Carolyn Doyle Couch, 70, of Dalton, passed away Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at Emory Hospital.
She was born in Shellmound, Tenn., and grew up in Jasper. She was the daughter of a hardworking farmer and schoolteacher, and she had a wonderful childhood.
She graduated from South Pittsburg High School and Middle Tennessee State University and received a master’s in education from West Georgia College and an educational specialist degree from Berry College in Rome. She married Ellis “Butch” Couch in 1970 and moved to Dalton in 1973. She would teach kindergarten in Dalton Public Schools for more than 30 years. She was widowed at the age of 43 and raised two boys by herself.
She was a wonderful and selfless mother. She later became a perfect “nana” to her grandchildren. She always put her boys first. A kind and generous woman, she always tried to help people as best she could. She loved her friends and all the children she taught through the years. She also loved animals and volunteered at the Dalton Animal Shelter. She was as close to an angel on Earth as one could imagine.
She will be missed terribly but there will be no more suffering. She is happy again and finally reunited with Butch, the love of her life, and her mama and daddy.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, James and Vera Doyle, of Jasper, Tenn., and her husband, Ellis Einsel Couch III of Dalton.
She is survived by her son, James; daughter-in-law, Betsy Couch; two grandchildren, Ellis Einsel Couch IV and James Henry Couch of Marietta; and her other son Sam and daughter-in-law Brandi Couch of Marion, Ill.
A memorial service will be Friday at 1 p.m. at ChristChurch Presbyterian with Dr. Mickey Shealy officiating.
