David Lee Detar, 37, of Grand Haven, Mich., passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013.
David was born Jan. 10, 1976, to Donald and Sondra (Freeman) Detar in Plano, Texas. He married Debbie Roossien on Nov. 20, 1999, in Lexington, Ky. David graduated from Asbury University in Wilmore, Ky. He was a member of Spring Lake Wesleyan Church and was also an Eagle Scout. David enjoyed cooking, biking, running, reading and spending time with his girls. He had an adventurous side and spent a lot of time in the outdoors in Michigan and his favorite state, Georgia. David loved helping others and going on mission trips.
He is survived by his loving family: daughters, Meralee and Audrey Detar; his wife, Debbie; parents, Don and Sandy Detar of Varnell; in-laws, Doug and Joyce Roossien of West Olive, Mich.; grandfather, Donald Detar Sr. of Greensburg, Pa.; sister, Debbie Scott of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; brother-in-law, Dave and Jodie Roossien of Grand Rapids, Mich.; sister-in-law, Lori and Kevin Korhorn of Niles, Mich.; niece and nephews, Grace, Joshua and Caleb Korhorn, and Colin Scott.
A service for David will be Saturday at noon at Spring Lake Wesleyan Church with Pastor Peter Yoshonis officiating.
Visitation is Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Klaassen Family Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
A memorial service to honor David’s life will be at Varnell United Methodist Church on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m.
