Trammell Starr Maddox, 84, of Dalton, departed this life on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Dalton, the son of Trammell and Loutie Maddox, he graduated from Dalton High School. After high school he was selected to serve in Washington, D.C., as a Congressional page. He completed two years at North Georgia College and then returned to help run the family dairy farm at Maddox Mill.
He became interested in business and soon ventured into the Carpet Industry where he worked in and owned various carpet-related operations. One venture he partnered was Crest Sample Co., a leader in carpet display sample manufacturing.
Upon retirement he returned to beef cattle farming which was his lifelong passion. He also enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the world.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dalton (now ChristChurch Presbyterian).
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Catherine Cooper Maddox of Dalton; his son, Trammell Maddox and his wife Rebecca of Carrollton.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Tanya Maddox Kerr. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Howell Kerr and his wife Kayanne of Dalton; grandchildren, Molly Anne and Alex Kerr and Alexis and Trammell Starr Maddox IV; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jane and Jack Abel, Billie and Bob Nesmith; nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at ChristChurch Presbyterian with the Rev. Mickey Shealy officiating.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at ChristChurch Presbyterian fellowship hall.
He will be laid to rest in West Hill Cemetery.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to ChristChurch Presbyterian at 510 S. Tibbs Road, Dalton.
