Nell Ruth Loughridge, a retired educator from Murray County, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 18, 2013, at her home.
She was a member of the Eton Baptist Church for 63 years.
Nell Ruth was also a member and past president of the Murray-Whitfield Historical Society, Friends of the Vann House and the past president of the Seventh Congressional District Federation of Women’s Clubs.
She was involved in various Vocational and Home Economics Associations at both the state and national level. Honors received by Nell Ruth are: Georgia Home Economics Teacher of the Year, 1988; Georgia Home Economics Association District Teacher of the Year, 1979 and 1987; Murray County High School Vocational Teacher of the Year, 1984, 1988, and 1997; Murray County High School Teacher of the Year, 1978; Murray County Teacher of the Year, 1985; and Seventh Congressional District Georgia Homemaker Award, 1959.
Nell Ruth enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family and attending University of Georgia football games.
Mrs. Loughridge was preceded in death by her husband, James Loughridge; parents, Carl and Ora Davis; brothers, Rembert, Carl L. and Glen Davis; and grandson, Robert Loughridge.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, David and Pam Loughridge and Steve and Lisa Loughridge of Chatsworth; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Doug Scott of Chatsworth; grandchildren, Mary Beth Cole, Jim Loughridge, Jon Scott, Chris Scott, Emily Scott, Sarah Loughridge and Michael Loughridge; great-grandchildren, Cara Scott and Susannah Cole; sister-in-law, Mauriene Davis of Chatsworth; and special friends and caregivers, Sharon Starks, Mary Barnette, and Reba Luckett.
Services for Mrs. Loughridge will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Eton Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Smith officiating. Interment will be in Chatsworth Heights Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 4:30 to 9 p.m.
