She was born on June 8, 1930, in Ellijay, to the late Branerd and Effie Mae Harper.
Effie was also preceded in death by her husband, Joe H. Hughes; daughter, Carolyn Lambert; brothers, Kenneth Harper and Clarence Harper; and sister, Dorothy Dean.
She was survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Alan Hughes of Dalton, Jeff and Debbie Hughes of Dalton, Larry Hughes of Dalton, and Mel and Rita Hughes of Chatsworth; daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Jerry Preciado of Nashville; grandchildren, Stacy Hughes, Wane Hughes, Sean Hughes and Shannon Bishop; and great-grandchildren, Houston Hughes, Austin Hughes, Trenton Powers, Branson Johnson, Taylor Hughes and Courtney Johnson.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Effie Lee Hughes will be held Wednesday at noon at the chapel of Dalton Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Headrick and the Rev. Roy Groce officiating.
Interment will follow at West Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 5 to 9 p.m.
