Fred DeWitt Roe

Fred DeWitt Roe, 77, of Kodak, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 25, 2014, after a long battle with cancer.

He was born March 7, 1937, in Spring Place.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl and Claud Roe; sisters, Claudell McWhorter and Edna Roe; brothers, Charles, Dennis and Terry Roe; mother-in-law, Duzzie Moore.

He is survived by his wife of 46 1/2 years, Phyllis Moore Roe of Kodak, Tenn.; sons, Robby Roe, Daniel Ferrell and Tony Smith, all of Kodak, Tenn.; grandchildren, Bryson Ferrell of Cookeville, Tenn., Brianna Ferrell, Alexis Ferrell and Daniel Ferrell Jr., all of Kodak, Tenn., Aydien Smith of Knoxville, Tenn.; special granddaughter, Jacky Ortiz of Kodak; brother, Jerry Roe of Cohutta; sister, Barbara (Bob) Pierce of Tennga; brother-in-law, John A. Moore of Cleveland, Tenn.; sisters-in-law, Kay Moore of Rocky Face, Kay (Doug) Curtis of Chattanooga; and special thanks to sister-in-law, Kimmy Holliday of Kodak, Tenn.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Thanks to Dr. McCachren and staff of Thompson Oncology in Knoxville. A very special thanks to all the nurses and other staff of Caris Hospice Care in Sevierville, Tenn. Thanks to all the neighbors and friends for your support and prayers. A very special thanks to Charlotte and Pastor Don McEntire and all the members of Dumplin Baptist Church for your visits, prayers and kind words.

A funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Dalton Funeral Home with the Rev. Isaac Johns and the Rev. Ronald Guffey officiating. Burial will be at Eton Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Robby Roe, Daniel Ferrell, Brian Harris, Tyler Moore, John Moore and Jerry Deal. Tony Smith will lead the pallbearers.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday.
