Doris Davis Rush


— Doris Davis Rush, 102, a resident of Marietta and formerly of Cartersville where she lived most of her life, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014.

She was born in Eton and was the youngest of eight children.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Tom Rush.

Doris and Tom married in June of 1939 after meeting at Berry College where they remained actively involved in the alumni association until Tom’s death in 2002. While in Cartersville, Mrs. Rush was best known as “Miss Doris” while working for 20 years at Miss Marilu’s Pink Kindergarten. She and her husband were active members of the first Baptist Church of Cartersville where she taught 5-year-olds in Sunday school for 43 years. In later years Doris and Tom were active in the senior adult activities.

For the past 12 years Doris has resided at Greenwood Gardens (assisted living) in Marietta where she received excellent and outstanding care. The family gratefully appreciates the love shown to her at Greenwood Gardens during this time. Her quality of life was enhanced by the devotion given given to her by all those who cared for her including Agape Hospice who provided exceptional care during this past year.

 She is survived by two daughters, Charlotte (Ed) Martin of Marietta and Rhonda (Mack) Collins of Powder Springs; two granddaughters, Lyn Huber and Fran (Todd) McMath, and five great-grandchildren, Michael, Brooke, Rachel, Lindsey and Will.

Services are today at 2 p.m. in the Owen Funeral Home Chapel.

The family will receive friends today from 1 to 2 p.m. at Owen Funeral Home.
