Eugene Stoddard Taylor Jr.

Mr. Eugene Stoddard Taylor Jr., 83, of Summerville, passed away Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, in the local nursing home.

A native of Summerville, he was born to the late Eugene Stoddard Taylor Sr. and the late Adeline Wright Taylor on May 22, 1928.

He was a graduate of Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.J., and the University of North Carolina School of Law, Chapel Hill.

Mr. Taylor was a member of the Presbyterian Church, served in the U.S. Marines during Korea, and was a retired attorney-at-law. He practiced law in Augusta, Atlanta and Dalton and devoted many years of practice to Atlanta Legal Aid Society and Georgia Legal Services Program. For many years he served as juvenile court judge in Dalton.

An avid outdoorsman, he hiked the Appalachian Trail in 1992.

Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth Taylor Archer and son-in-law Ala Archer of Signal Mountain, Tenn., of Chattanooga; son, Eugene S. Taylor of Atlanta; granddaughter, Hannah Archer; grandson, Jamie Archer; sister, Adeline T. Nunez of Oyster Bay, N.Y.

 Graveside service is today at 2 p.m. in the family lot of Summerville Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Penson officiating. The family will receive friends today at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the hour of service.
