Sam Everett “Johnny” King, 90, of Cohutta, passed away Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at Hamilton Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marlane Gazaway; parents, M.L. and Bertha King; sister, Hazel Dunn; and brothers, Charlie, Lee, Claude and Ernest King.
Mr. King proudly served his country in the U. S. Army and U.S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean War.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Dorothy King of the residence; daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Doyle Gazaway of Cohutta; son-in-law, Craig Gazaway; brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Mary King of Tampa, Fla.; grandchildren, Lisa Cochran, Steve Gazaway, Shannon Gazaway and Tanya Gilligan; great-grandchildren, Zack Lewis, Courtney Cochran, Morgan Cochran, Shelly Godfrey, Ciera Gazaway, Hunter Gazaway, Logan Gazaway and Emma Gilligan; great-great-granddaughter, Sailor Godfrey; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral service to honor the life of Mr. King will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home with Pastor Trey Starnes officiating.
Burial will be in United Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
Serving as pallbearers will be Zack Lewis, Warren Cochran, Hunter Gazaway, Dan Gilligan, Craig Gazaway and Shannon Gazaway.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m.
