Mother Mary Rivers Betton, 96, of Atlanta and formerly of Dalton, passed away Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at Piedmont Fayette Hospital with her son at her bedside.
She was better known as “Mom,” “Big Momma,” “Mae-Mae” and “Mother Mary.” She was a lifelong member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Betton, and son, James Betton.
She is survived by her loving son, John (Angenette) Betton of Atlanta; daughter-in-law, Ethel Betton; sister-in-law, Eva Lou Betton Rivers; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A homegoing service to celebrate the life of Mother Mary Rivers Betton will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, 2014 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., with Dr. Jerry D. Jones Sr. and other ministers officiating.
The family will receive friends today from 5 to 7 p.m.
Burial will be in Center Valley Cemetery.
