Lecil Lorraine Cox Leonard

Lecil Lorraine Cox Leonard, 95, of Chatsworth, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sept. 30, 2013.

She was a longtime member of Center Valley United Methodist Church where she was a lay leader and active in the children and youth programs and the United Methodist Women. She was a choir member, taught Sunday school for many years and prepared Lion’s Club suppers for the church’s building fund. She was dedicated to her family and active in many community services, including the Murray County’s Home Demonstration Club.

Mrs. Leonard was born on May 7, 1918, in Murray County to the late John W. Cox and Georgia Ovbey Cox. She married William Aaron Leonard on Dec. 24, 1936. They were married 37 wonderful years and raised their family on their Conasauga River Ranch Polled Hereford Farm.

She is survived by three sons, including Sherman and wife Peggy, Jerry and wife Judy, and Ronnie and wife Ima Jean, all of Chatsworth; and by two daughters, Cindy of Odenton, Md., and Joan and husband Ron Plylar of Gig Harbor, Wash. Mrs. Leonard has five granddaughters, Kay and husband Donnie McCurdy, Sherri Leonard, Tonjua and husband Scott Humphrey, Rhonda and husband Chris Harrison, all of Chatsworth, and Lorie Hodges of Oneonta, Ala.; and two grandsons, Jeff and wife Isis Leonard of Jacksonville, Fla., and Phil and wife Tonya Plylar of Salisbury, Md.

Mrs. Leonard was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Matt and Lydia McCurdy, Krissi McCurdy, Seth and Stephanie Ridley, Chad and Miranda Ridley, Christian, Faith Ann, Anna Grace and Mary Kate Humphrey, Mia Leonard, Travis, Noah and Miranda Hodges and Abigail Plylar; and great-great-grandchildren, McKayla, Skylar, Peyton and Taylor Ridley. Mrs. Leonard has two surviving sisters, Inez Cook of Bethel Springs, Tenn., and Wynette Lawson of Chatsworth, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to express gratitude to Pauline Morrison, caregiver and friend, and to the ladies of Tender Hearts for their dedicated service.

Services to celebrate the life of Lecil Leonard will be on Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home in Chatsworth.

The family will receive friends from noon to 3 p.m.

She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband at Center Valley Cemetery.
