Doris Davis Lynch, 92, of Dalton, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Quinton Memorial Health Care Center.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Charles Lynch Jr., and a sister, Maxine McGill.
Mrs. Doris Lynch was honored as one of the members of the inaugural class into the Eleanor Raoul Greene Society for Lifetime Achievement. Mrs. Lynch joined the League of Women Voters in 1958 and has been active ever since, serving as president of the Dalton League, on the state board of directors and as the state board president during her almost 50 years of service. Mrs. Lynch was appointed to serve on the State Commission on Housing under Gov. Lester Maddox and the State Commission of Environmental Affairs. Mrs. Lynch stayed active on the housing commission well into Carter’s gubernatorial administration. She retired from the Whitfield County school system.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Susan Lynch of Dalton; two grandchildren, Alex Lynch of New York City and Betsy Lynch of Kennesaw; and nieces and nephews.
A private family graveside service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Knob Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. W.A. Galyon officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the League of Women Voters or National Kidney Foundation on behalf of Betsy Lynch.
