Donald “Don” Ray Staton

— Donald “Don” Ray Staton went to be with our Lord on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Hamilton Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Staton was born April 3, 1941, in Trion, the son of the late Gurney and Mamie Watts Staton.

He was a member of Old Time Way Baptist Church in Dalton. Don was a talented musician and songwriter and traveled throughout the southeast for more than 25 years ministering God’s word through song.

Mr. Staton is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Margie Watts Staton of Dalton; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Denise Staton of Eton; son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Debbie Staton of Dalton; brother and sister-in-law, Eston and Janice Staton of Trion; grandchildren, David Goforth, Jeremy Staton and fiance, Kaitlin Sweeney, late Steven Dousharm, Michael Hill, and Patricia and Brian Pruitt; great-grandchildren, Hannah Pruitt, Ashton Pruitt and Kylie Staton; and special loved children, Gabriel, Miranda and Brady Coker.

Memorial services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Shawn Chapman Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Thomason, the Rev. Billy Joe Cochran and the Rev. James Watts officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from noon until the service hour.
