Mr. Edwin Odell Palmer, 83, of Dalton, departed this life Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Hamilton Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Edwin was born Nov. 3, 1929, in Whitfield County, a son of the late Floyd and Della Stancher Palmer. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Lovain Palmer; brothers, Jack and Gerald Palmer. Edwin was retired from the United States Air Force in the intelligence division. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge 105 F&AM, Scottish Rite, Shrine Yaarab Temple and York Rite, and he attended Maple Grove Baptist Church.
He is survived by stepdaughter and step son-in-law, Iva and Lowell Planzer of Dalton; stepgranddaughter, Henrietta Planzer of Dalton; stepgrandsons and spouses, Greg and Pat Planzer and Richard and Sonya Planzer; great-granddaughter, Sydney Planzer, all of Dalton. Edwin is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-laws, Lamar Palmer of Dalton, Deuane and Juanita Palmer of Ringgold, Charlie and Coleen Palmer of Maryland, Perry and Gwenelle Palmer of Crandall, Roger and Pat Palmer of Tunnel Hill, Mike and Susie Palmer of Chatsworth, and Sam and Phyllis, also of Chatsworth. He also had several nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Edwin Odell Palmer will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Morgan officiating. He will be laid to rest at West Hill Cemetery with military honors. The Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 5 to 8 p.m.
