James F. Hammontree, 80, of Dalton, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Hamilton Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Vera Hammontree; one brother, Sonny Hammontree; three half-brothers, D.L., Virgil and Don Hammontree; two half-sisters, Laresta Bowen and Geneva Hammontree; and mother and father-in-law, Bill and Willie Deverell.
He was a member of Grove Level Baptist Church and Gideons International.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sue Hammontree of the residence; son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Melody Hammontree of Cohutta; sister, Eva Burnette of Dalton; grandchildren, Harmony, Hannah Grace and Hope Hammontree; and nieces and nephews, Lisa and Ron Larman, Sandy Burnette, Greg and Cindy Deverell, and Mike and Leah Autry.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of James Hammontree will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Grove Level Baptist Church with Dr. Charlie Bridges and the Rev. Bill Walker officiating.
Burial will be at West Hill Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be the men’s Sunday school class of Grove Level Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 5 to 8 p.m.
