Martha Sue Burnett, of Annapolis, Md., passed away at her home on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013.
She celebrated her 80th birthday in August. She was an active member of her retirement community and a proud, lifelong Democrat. During her wonderful life, nothing meant more to her than family and friends.
Mrs. Burnett was born in Murray County on Aug. 2, 1933, and lived in Chatsworth for more than 35 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Howard Burnett. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Junior Ledford, in 1956; her late parents, Vince and Alma Wilbanks; brother, George Wilbanks; sisters, Mozelle Barker, Kathryn Hensley, Genevelyn Clark, Shirley Rogers and Loraetta Wilbanks.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Bruce Hesselbacher of Finksburg, Md.; sons and daughters-in-law, Alex and Vicki Burnett of Deale, Md., and David and Lynn Burnett of Charlotte, N.C.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Jessie Lee and Grady Burger of Calhoun; nephew and wife, Jerry and Lucille Barker of Douglasville; other family members, Bill Clark of Dalton, Jack and Geneva Ledford of Dalton, Harold and Barbara Jo Tankersley of Chatsworth, Lorene Springfield of Chatsworth.
A memorial service and celebration is Saturday at 11 a.m. at Holly Creek Baptist Church in Chatsworth, officiated by the Rev. Danny Cochran.
The family will receive friends in the CLC Center immediately after the service.
Burial will be private.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Holly Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or a charity of your choosing.
