Mrs. Gertrude Frank “Tootsie” Friar, 93, of Dalton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Thursday afternoon, Nov. 14, 2013, at Regency Park.
Tootsie was born May 24, 1920, in Middleboro, Ky., a daughter of the late Squire and Mary Crabtree Estes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Bruce Friar; a great-grandson, Logan Sanders; sisters, Henrietta McDonald, Sadie Flemming and Elizabeth Dunn; and brothers, Jake Estes, Buford Estes and Doug Estes.
Tootsie was a member of Church of God of the Union Assembly.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anna and the Rev. Lonnie Starnes of Dalton; grandchildren, the Rev. Trey and Becky Starnes of Dalton, Jessie and Jennifer Starnes of Rockmart, Colleetoe and Zach Sanders of Cedartown, Santana and Dadrian Wilson of Texarkana, Texas; great-grandchildren, Derishia and Richard Lynch, Falyn and Zane Langham, Jordan Starnes, Zachary and Bailey Sanders, and Miles Wilson; great-great-grandchildren, Juliana Lynch, Keighton Langham and Kensley Langham; brother, Jim Estes of Tomball, Texas; sister, Mary Van Meter of Rome; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Gertrude “Tootsie” Friar will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Church of God of the Union Assembly with the Rev. Paul B. Pratt officiating. She will be laid to rest at West Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5 to 9 p.m. today and after 11 a.m. Sunday until the service hour.
