Mr. Hoover Robert Gilbert, 84, of Dalton, departed this life Wednesday morning, Sept. 18, 2013, in the comfort of his home under hospice care.
Hoover was born March 19, 1929, in Pikeville, Tenn., a son of the late Richard and Lydia Beach Gilbert. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Eva Jane Sapp Gilbert; a son-in-law, Ronald Thornton; brothers, Albert, S.L., Herbert, Donald, Brown and John Gilbert and a sister, Mable Gross.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and James Whitlock of Chatsworth, Violet Thornton of Dalton, Janie and David Wakefield of Crandall; brother, Hobert Gilbert of Spencer, Tenn.; sister, Lillian Creeson of Sparta, Tenn.; grandchildren, Susan Wilkey, Jeanenne Kendrick, Tammie Willis, Selena Taylor, Shannon Wilbanks, Jon Wakefield, Stacy Hopkins and Robby Hopkins; 26 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Hoover Robert Gilbert will be Saturday at 2 p.m. (CST) at Pikeville Funeral Home, 39299 Highway 30, Pikeville, Tenn., with the Rev. David Wakefield officiating. He will be laid to rest at Blackburn Cemetery in Pikeville with Dexter Burgess, Cody Kendrick, Justin Hopkins, Darrell Gilbert, Allen Dale Gilbert and Anthony Gilbert serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5 to 9 p.m. today and at Pikeville Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.
