Mr. Neal Edward Sharp Sr., 77, of Dalton, departed this life Sunday morning, Nov. 3, 2013, at the local hospital.
He was born Nov. 4, 1935, in Robinsville, N.C., a son of the late Reuben W. and Sarah Gates Sharp. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Sharp, and a grandson who gave his life for his country, LCpl. USMC Charles Seth Sharp.
Mr. Sharp loved home cooking, deer hunting, fishing, gospel singing and Braves baseball. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by the mother of his children and caregiver, Aileen Sharp of Dalton; sons and daughters-in-law, Neal Edward “Rusty” Sharp Jr. and Shelia Sharp of Round Rock, Texas, and Ric and Tiffany Sharp of Adairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Michael Keehley of Canton; sisters, Bonnie Stinnett of Robinsville, N.C., and Irene Thornton of Sylvia, N.C.; grandchildren, Brooks, Cameron, Cory, Kaitlyn, Taylor, Melody and Michael; and several nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Neal Edward Sharp Sr. will be held Wednesday at noon from the Ponders Melrose Chapel with Pastor Mitchell McDougall officiating.
Interment will follow in the Hipps Chapel Cemetery in Blue Ridge with the Rev. Delmar Davenport officiating. His family will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 5 to 9 p.m.
