Jack ‘Papaw’ Richards Jr.

— Mr. Jack “Papaw” Richards Jr., 76, of Dalton, passed away Monday, March 3, 2014, at his home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Reba Groves Richards; brother, Charles Richards; and son, John Allen Richards.

Jack and his brother Charles owned and operated Richards Brothers Exxon on Murray Avenue, serving their customers for 35 years. He served in the Air Force for four years while stationed at Williams Air Force Base in Arizona and later served as a volunteer fireman for Whitfield County Station No. 8 for 30 years before retiring as a lieutenant. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and also loved his family and his dog Sammy very much.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Donna June Richards; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Dean Ramsey, and Jill and Mark Joyce; son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Connie Richards, all of Dalton; brother and sister-in-law, Jewel and Ellen Richards of Dalton; sisters and brother-in-law, Jean Carroll of Cohutta, Lela Akins of Varnell, and Polly and M.B. Cooper of Cohutta; grandchildren, Brad (Emily) Ramsey, Megan Ramsey, Lindsay Joyce, Hannah Joyce, Chelsey Cline, Cody Richards, Haley Richards, Katlyn Richards, Morgan Richards and LaShon Harbour; great-grandchildren, Chase Ramsey, Jackson Ramsey and Giuliana Harbour; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Love Funeral Home with Bishop Christian Griggs, Brother Ron Frances and Brother Vernon Youell officiating.

Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home today from 5 to 8 p.m.
