Mr. Wendell Ashworth, 87, of Dalton, departed this life Friday morning, Aug. 16, 2013, at Hamilton Medical Center with family by his side.
Wendell was born Sept. 10, 1925, in Ranger, a son of the late Jasper Bartow and Myrtle Barkesdale Ashworth and was a member of the Dalton First Baptist Church.
Wendell served in World War II, landing at Omaha Beach. Wendell received the Purple Heart with an Oak Leave Cluster, Bronze Star along with a Silver Star for his service. After the war, Wendell returned to Dalton and worked for Gregory Printing Co. and was co-founder of Tufted Sample Co.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dee Ette Ashworth; brother and sister-in-law, J.B. and Elsie Ashworth.
Wendell is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Lane and Debbie Ashworth of Dalton; daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Doug Peters of Dalton; grandchildren, Brandon and Nicki Peters, Spencer Peters and Ashleigh Peters, all of Dalton; nephew, Carson and Elizabeth Ashworth of Alpharetta.
The funeral for Mr. Ashworth will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Dalton First Baptist Church with Dr. Billy Nimmons and the Rev. Phillip Cannon officiating.
Burial will be in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends in the atrium of the church from noon to 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
