John E. McKinney, 92, of Dalton, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at Hamilton Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Felker McKinney; parents, James and Nancy McKinney; four sisters and four brothers.
Mr. McKinney was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and Dalton Civitan Club. He taught Sunday school for more than 50 years and was a World War II veteran serving in the Army Air Force. He was deeply involved in many community charitable organizations including the Cherokee Boys Estate, Providence Ministries and Upper Room Mission.
He is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Connie McKinney Simpson of Roswell, Cathy and Perry Byars of Cohutta, Cynthia Sue McKinney of Dalton and Cheryl and Terry Crouch of Johns Creek; sister-in-law, Betty Thompson of Trenton; six grandchildren, Dianna and Bill Rands, Franklin Simpson, Jamie and Jon Rigell, Perrin Andrea Byars and Chad Marthe, Amanda Byars and James Wickens, Danielle Lorena McKinney; seven great-grandchildren; special nephew, Manuel Sardina; many other nieces and nephews.
The funeral to honor the life of Mr. McKinney will be Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Mullis officiating. Burial will be in United Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 5 to 8 p.m.
