Dr. Milton David Scott Jr., 80, of East Point, passed away Friday, Aug. 16, 2013.
He was born on April 8, 1933, in Dalton. He served his country in the U. S. Army, was a member of Bethel AME Church, Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, Metro-Atlanta Masonic Lodge and the Honorary Society. Following his military service, Dr. Scott’s educational achievements include the following: a bachelor of science degree in agriculture from Fort Valley State College; a master of science degree in agriculture from Tuskegee Institute of Technology; a master’s degree in education from Oklahoma State University; and a doctorate in adult education from the University of Oklahoma. His early teaching experiences include employment at Ida Lowery High School in Preston, Milledgeville Training School in Milledgeville and the Clayton County Alternative School. At the pinnacle of his professional teaching career was his ultimate position on the staff of Morris Brown College, where he taught courses in education.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Carolyn Lott Scott; one son, Milton David Scott III; three sisters, Arvella (Charles) Starling, Georgia (Hobert) Harris and Lillian (Walter) Miller; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Willis Funeral Home with Dr. Angela Harris officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 7 p.m.
Interment will be at the West Hill Cemetery.
