The Rev. Greer Lawford “G.L.” Martin, 90, of Tunnel Hill, passed away on Sunday afternoon, September 1, 2013 at Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton.
Born on July 7, 1923, in Knoxville, Tenn., he was the son of the late James and Ella W. Martin.
He was married to the late Burnetta Martin.
G.L. was a firefighter in Knoxville for a number of years and a member of the Modern Woodmen. He served as the general overseer of the Cleveland Church of God, pastored the Lucky Street Church of God and later went on to evangelize. Spreading the Gospel was G.L.’s true life calling; the ministry brought him a lifetime of fulfillment and happiness.
G.L. is survived by his sons, Troy Martin and Wayne Martin; daughters, Shirley Garner and Sandra Ralston; 12 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
G.L. was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Burnetta Martin, his parents and a son, Terry Martin.
A funeral to celebrate the life of the Rev. G.L. Martin will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Dalton Funeral Home with the Rev. Shane Calhoun officiating.
Interment will be at West Hill Cemetery in Dalton.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 9 p.m. today.
